Biographical Sketch
Dr. Jose Montero received his BS and MD degrees from the University of South Florida. He traveled to Duke University Medical Center for his Internal Medicine residency. Upon completion of his fellowship training in Infectious Diseases, he joined the faculty as Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 1998 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2003. Dr. Montero is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. During his training he has been decorated with an array of honors and awards including: The Florida Infectious Disease Society Award and Membership in Alpha Omega Alpha. Since his faculty appointment, Dr. Montero has been involved in many activities exemplifying his keen abilities both as a clinician and educator. He has served as the Faculty Coordinator of the CDC STD/HIV Faculty Expansion Program, he is actively involved in the Florida AIDS Education Training Center, the regional Florida STD/HIV Prevention Training Center, and the USF CHART-India program which expands HIV education to clinicians in India.
Dr. Montero currently serves as the Chairman of Infection Control as well as Pharmacy and Therapeutics at Kindred Hospital Central Tampa. In 2006, he began serving as the Medical Director of Kindred Hospital Central Tampa. He is the Medical Director of the Vascular Access Team at Tampa General Hospital. In 2004, he was appointed to the President's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA) which is a group of individuals who advises the President of the United States in domestic and international HIV issues. He has published over a dozen manuscripts including peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and presented abstracts at various national conferences. Dr. Montero serves as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on many HIV clinical trials.
