Biographical Sketch

Dr. Robert Brooks is a nationally recognized scholar, researcher and educator in the areas of patient safety, health informatics, and policy. He received his MPH from Harvard School of Public Health, his MBA from Auburn University, and his MD from Wayne State University.  He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Sinai Hospital and his Fellowship in Infectious Disease at Stanford University.
 
Dr. Brooks holds faculty appointments in the Morsani College of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease, the College of Public Health, and he serves as an Associate Vice President for Health Leadership at USF Health.  He is a member of USF's Medical School Admissions Committee and was Chair from 2009-2011.  He has been instrumental in improving the medical curriculum and enhancing admissions standards at the University of South Florida.
 
Prior to his tenure at USF, Dr. Brooks worked at Florida State University, where he established five Centers of Excellence:

  • Center for Rural Health Research & Policy
  • Center on Medicine and Public Health
  • Center on Global Health

He is a former Secretary of the Florida Department of Health, Chief Medical Officer for the state of Florida, and member of the Florida House of Representatives.  Dr. Brooks has served on over 35 boards and task forces and has been a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed journals.  He has authored or co-authored over 115 peer-reviewed publications and 3 book chapters, and has provided over 250 lectures in vast and varied topics of infectious disease, public health, and health policy.

Dr. Brooks brings an extensive and intricate working knowledge of academic medicine, curriculum development, student recruitment, advisement, and health policy and practice.
