Biographical Sketch

dr roscoeDr. Roscoe completed undergraduate and master's degrees at Michigan State University, and then completed her doctorate in Aging Studies at the University of South Florida as a member of the interdisciplinary program's charter class. Dr. Roscoe's research is primarily in the area of end-of-life decisionmaking. Past projects have investigated the clinical and psychosocial characteristics of individuals who sought physician-assisted suicide; the perceptions of nursing home and hospice staff about the quality of end-of-life care in long-term care facilities; gender differences in end-of-life care preferences; and quality-of-life and symptom control for hospice cancer patients continuing with chemotherapy. Dr. Roscoe's current research focuses on improving end-of-life care for persons with Huntington's Disease and their family caregivers, and is being conducted in collaboration with the newly designated Huntington's Disease Center of Excellence at USF.

Dr. Roscoe is a member of the Center for Hospice, Palliative Care and End-of-Life Studies at USF, and serves on the Center's Executive Committee as well as chairing its Conference Planning Committee. Dr. Roscoe is a member of the ethics committees at Tampa General Hospital and LifePath Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., and is a member of the Gerontological Society of America.

Dr. Roscoe helped develop the required week-long introductory course in geriatric medicine for USF's medical students, and has published an evaluation of the course's effectiveness in changing medical students' attitudes toward older patients.
