The Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG)

The Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) is an active student group on the medical school campus. Members are students interested in, but not necessary committed to, the specialty of Family Medicine. Activities are wide ranging, from the Welcoming Wine and Cheese Party for all freshmen to a Residency Night for students in their third and fourth years. There are periodic lunch-time discussions, opportunities to attend both state and national conferences sponsored by the FAFP, and several other services beneficial to the student interested in Family Medicine.

The FMIG is sponsored by the Florida Academy of Family Physicians (FAFP). The FAFP pays for students' memberships in the American and Florida Academy of Family Physicians throughout their four years of medical school. This entitles the student to numerous benefits including a subscription to the journal American Family Physician, one of the most informative and readable medical journals available. This organization remains highly visible on the campus; membership is open and encouraged at any time through the year.

Project World Health (PWH)

Project World Health (PWH) was developed by the Family Practice Student Organization. PWH involves medical students in international medical issues by service and education promoting awareness of other medical care systems and health issues of other countries. PWH is a student organized program, with year round participation in brown-bag lunches, evening seminars, and medical missions to different countries each year. Opportunities to travel during semester breaks are offered through affiliations with other service organizations and contacts made by students. Project World Health also maintains a file for students who wish to practice medicine in underdeveloped or foreign countries in the future.
