Hospice of Southwest Florida changes name to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care
Hospice Insider December 2005 - publication of the Florida Hospice and Palliative

Hospice of Southwest Florida, currently celebrating its 25th anniversary as the area's premier provider of healthcare services to patients and families dealing with advanced illness, will now be known as TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care.

The agency's new name and visual identity was announced and is designed to set it apart, creating a unique and bold look that will become recognizable in the marketplace.

"The new TideWell identity will make it easier for us to talk about what makes us special as a hospice - the quality of our care, the commitment and expertise of our people and the range of our services," President and CEO Marge Maisto said. "We also hope that people will begin to understand that we are an independent, non-profit organization that believes in the principles of the hospice movement, rather than a local branch of a national hospice organization."

The name is a hope-filled reference to the ebb and flow of life, evocative of gulf coast living and the natural rhythm of our environment. TideWell's distinctive logotype with its outreaching "W," strong and unique, symbolizes the strength of our relationships as it reaches over the "e" to emphasize the helping hand and protection that hospice provides for patients and families.

This new identity was created following extensive market research and was executed by TippingSpring, a brand consultancy based in New York City. Results of their research proved the name to be memorable and distinctive, while motivating respondents to learn more about the organization.

TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care was founded in 1980 as Hospice of Sarasota County. Expansion into Manatee County came in 1988, which brought with it a name change to Hospice of Southwest Florida, more reflective of the agency's service area. Today, TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care provides end-of-life services to more than 6,000 patients and families annually in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties.

Tampa Mayor Problaims November as Hospice Month

Hospice Insider December 2005 - a publication of the Florida Hospice and Palliative Care

November is National Hospice Month, and Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio recently presented LifePath Hospice with a city proclamation recognizing the observance locally. Mayor Iorio made the presentation on November 2, 2005 in her office at Tampa City Hall.

"Hospice is a needed healthcare service," said the mayor. LifePath Hospice Executive Director Cheryl Hamilton accepted the proclamation. She pointed out that compared with other areas, a higher percentage of Tampa residents utilize LifePath Hospice services at the end of life. "We care for about 1550 patients a day in Hillsborough County. LifePath Hospice has provided end-of-life care in the community for more than 20 years, and we deeply appreciate this recognition by the city."

LifePath Hospice operates two offices in Tampa, two in Temple Terrace, including the corporate headquarters, and one in Sun City Center. The organization also operates two inpatient hospice houses in Temple Terrace and Sun City Center and has just broken ground on another hospice house in Sun City Center.

LifePath Hospice and affiliate Good Shepherd Hospice are not-for-profit, JCAHO-accredited organizations that provide patient and family care in Hillsborough, Polk, Hardee and Highlands Counties for those coping with the last 12 months of a life-limiting illness.
