The mission of the Center is to optimize care and systems of care for patients and families faced with non-curable diseases by generating new knowledge through interdisciplinary research, use that knowledge to educate health and human service professionals, and influence public policy supporting quality end of life care.


The Center for Hospice, Palliative Care & End-of-Life Studies at USF unites a major research university with community providers of hospice and palliative care in an equal partnership aimed at influencing policy and practice through research and education. The Center began informally in 1996, and was formally recognized by USF in 2000. The Center brings together members from hospices across West Central Florida, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, James A. Haley Veterans Medical Center, and the University of South Florida. By Facilitating collaboration among experts in end-of-life care who represents multiple disciplines, The Center is able to generate cutting edge research that addresses issues in hospice, palliative care, and end-of-life studies from a comprehensive perspective.
