Tampa General Hospital

Tampa General Hospital is located approximately fifteen miles south of the USF campus. It serves as the Level 1 Trauma Center for the region, and it is a primary post-graduate training location for the USF Morsani College of Medicine. USF orthopaedic residents spend a total of six months at TGH, with a focus upon orthopaedic trauma training. Orthopaedic surgery education at TGH is provided by many of the faculty members of the Florida Orthopaedic Institute, under the supervision of Roy Sanders, M.D. (Past President of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association). Foot and ankle surgery and hand surgery training are also provided at TGH by USF full time faculty. In 2005 & 2006, orthopedic care at Tampa General received national recognition by inclusion in the U.S. News & World Report's list of America's Best Hospitals in orthopedics 2005 & 2006.

The James A. Haley Veterans Administration hospital mission is to provide compassionate patient care, education and research, and will serve as one of the participating affiliate institutions. The hospital's participation in the resident training will be based on a clear education rationale integral to the program curriculum with clearly-stated activities and objectives. Residents gain a unique training experience at the V.A. Hospital due to the exposure of a large representation of patients from socio-economically disadvantaged and indigent segments of society and exposure to a higher incidence of chronic diseases, significant degenerative musculoskeletal disorders, and advanced stage malignancies. The hospital is located across the street from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, connected by a walkway.
