Biographical Sketch

Dr. Bernd Sokolowski received his doctorate from Georgetown University, School of Medicine, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. He held postdoctoral fellowship positions at Johns Hopkins University, Department of Biomedical Engineering and the University of Colorado, Department of Physiology. Dr. Sokolowski is well published and has received numerous grants including awards from the NIH to continue his research, exploring the mechanisms that turn on cellular and genetic events, regulating the development of nerves and sensory cells in the inner ear.

Dr. Sokolowski, joined the faculty of the College of Medicine in 1991 and became Director of Research in 1999. His expertise is in the physiology and molecular biology of ion channels in the sensory and nerve cells of the cochlea.
