Biographical Sketch

Dr. George H. Barbier retired as the Chief of Cardiology at the James A. Haley VA Hospital recently. Following this career he was accepted at the Cleveland Clinic for a Sabbatical on Metabolic Imaging and Nuclear Cardiology. He holds Board Certifications in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, Cardiovascular Diseases, Nuclear Cardiology and Echocardiography. A recent review of his cardiovascular computed CT training by the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography verified his Level III status. He accepted his retirement as a Captain in the US Navy following over 20 years of dedicated service prior to joining the VA. While on active duty he served as a Pulmonologist, Cardiologist, Chief of Internal Medicine and Chief of Staff. During his tours, he received numerous awards and commendations from superiors, peers and subordinates recognizing his teaching efforts.

Following his Navy career he joined the VA to pursue his interest in teaching and satisfy his passion for excellence in informatics, digital imaging and transfer, cardiology PACS development, and organizational excellence. His focus on continuous quality improvement for the patients we all serve forms the driving force behind his efforts. His interest in imaging complements his focus on viewing the world clearly to enable his own quest for spiritual and academic development.
