Saturday August 9, 2008- BBQ/Pool Party/Volleyball/good times( 12 pm)
Your first chance to meet the new class of 2012 MD and 2011 DPT, as well as some faculty that you will be working with. Location to come, but this is sure to be fun in the summer sun, hamburgers, hot dogs, and plenty of fun games and things to do.
Dinners Every Friday during POM( the 16th and 22nd of August)
As you might know, the first class you'll have is Professions of Medicine, and intro to, well….medicine. During this time{,}you will be assigned a group of new peers to work with on a group project as well as plenty of interesting and engaging speakers that will come and present to you. These two dinners are informal, somewhere quick and easy around campus like TGIF or Fridays or Tia's (Mexican) to meet your group members (and another opportunity to meet your class) as well as many members of the classes of 2011 MD and 2010 DPT to answer questions you might have still before classes begin. It's just a way of getting people together. So relax, enjoy some good food, better company and unwind before the weekend. Also, you will be responsible for your own meal (payment wise)
Monday August 11, 2008- 12-PAC lunch, Big/Little Sib *FREE* Lunch
Not much to explain here, we get ya'll for two hours to chat, maybe watch some Scrubs or House( in the works), and eat a free lunch. At this point, the second years are in full swing, so it'll be nice for both of us to take a break and chit chat. We'll start at 12, end at 2, and location to come!
Saturday August 16th, 2008- Fun Run!( Pre 80's party)
Starting at 9 am(location to come, usually park near school),this will be the fourth annual Fun Run( the sober version of Bull Run), designed to ignite camaraderie( and to see who the best is) between med students and the profs. It is a charitable event in which the money raised will be donated to LOCAL FREE HEALTH CLINICS! Shirts for this event for the incoming class will be provided through 12-PAC. There will be a short run (5K), followed by games such as water balloon toss and water relays. For those that prefer the sand, there is an AVP style level of competition game of beach volleyball.
Saturday August 16th, 2008 80's Party!!!
Alright, so this is a big one, kinda a big deal. This party is fun, and it's to celebrate your first week of medical school. Some of POM is designed to give insight into how common health problems were dealt with in the 1980s, 20 years plus ago, and how they are dealt with now. This costume, theme party is to celebrate the 80's, in all their glory, and to see
Dr. Bognar dressed as ridiculous as possible, deserving great mockery. Costumes make this fun, so don't hold back, we all know in college at some time you went to an 80s party!
Wednesday August 20, 2008 Bowling Night!
No matter how cool you think you are, no one is above a fun night of bowling, so tie on those funky shoes, put on your brace, grab your White Russian and enjoy a night out. The price will be $10 per person( please bring exact change!!) for all-you-can-bowl, shoe rental and a couple of free beverages, as well as drink specials. This is from 8-midnight at U Lanes on 56th, and is always a blast. Friends/family welcome too!

Saturday September 30, 2008 12th ANNUAL BULL RUN!! (8-?pm)
This debauchery and ruckus is a USF COM tradition in which all four medical school classes are invited to a night out in
Ybor City. Shirts are purchased through your very own 12-PAC, and friends as well as family are welcome and encouraged to join. Each shirt will have a list of participating clubs/bars that have agreed to provide free cover and their best drink specials (alcoholic or not) to the wearer of the previously mentioned shirt. Buses will be provided for the members of the class of 2012 to and from
Ybor City, and there will be members of the 12-PAC located at certain participating vendors, if you lose your friends or need a break from the partying.
PLEASE remember, as students embarking on the medical profession, and representing USF, it would be a smart idea to keep things semi-kosher. You don't show up on the front of TBT in a mugshot. (For those that don't catch my drift, drink responsibly)
1st Annual USF Bulls Tailgate-Date and times TBD
Whether you're a Bull-Gator, a Bull-Nole, or a Bull-Dawg(I love that one), your own previously nationally ranked #2 Bulls play at Raymond James Stadium. So if you miss college ball Saturdays as much as I do, and yearn for those perfect Southern Tailgates of good ol days, then this is going to be a fun one. Student tickets, as of now, are still first come first serve, and are general admission. So, ya'll are responsible for those. After that, we hope to get two plots as well as a full tailgate together with Cocktail Shrimp, Fried Chicken, beer and such while we enjoy the bulls whip up some poor foe. As always, friends and family welcomed, as long as ya'll get tickets. Stay tuned as this will be coming together closer to the start of school, we are looking forward to putting this together and trying to get a tradition started! |
