Updating and Recreating the SecuRemote VPN-1 HSCHIPAA Site
On rare occasions, SecuRemote will be unable to communicate properly with our firewall due to required maintenance changes on our network. Error messages such as “unable to create a valid certificate” or “unable to identify user” are usually generated whenever SecuRemote is unable to communicate with the VPN-1 site. To correct this problem, the user must manually update the VPN-1 site information on SecuRemote or manually delete and recreate the site. The following are step-by-step instructions on how to perform these fixes for proper SecuRemote authentication.
Updating the Site Information (TRY THIS FIRST)
1. Double-click on the SecuRemote icon (key with an envelope) on the system tray located in the right-hand corner of the screen.

This will bring up the SecuRemote console window:

2. Click to select the “hschipaa.hsc.usf.edu” icon. Then click on the “Sites” drop-down menu to choose “Update Site…” You’ll see the following screen:

3. Make sure the “Nickname” and “IP” fields are as shown above, then click the ”Update” button to update the site information.
4. SecuRemote will then prompt you to authenticate:

Enter your HSC E-mail username and password, wait until a “verify certificate” screen pops up, then quickly press the OK button. After site validation, SecuRemote will tell you if authentication was successful or if it failed.
5. Press the “OK” button on the “Update Site” screen to save new site data information.
6. Close the SecuRemote console window, and reboot your computer.
Recreating the HSCHIPAA Site (COMPLETE ONLY IF THE ABOVE FAILED)

2. Click to select the “hschipaa.hsc.usf.edu” icon. Then click on the “Sites” drop-down menu to choose “Delete.” The “hschipaa.hsc.usf.edu” site icon will disappear. Close the SecuRemote console window, and reboot your computer.
3. After Windows finishes loading, repeat step “1” again to bring up the console window, then click on the “Sites” drop-down menu to choose “Create New.” You’ll see the following dialog box:
