Configuring Outlook 2000 and 97 For Use On-Campus
Information Systems · How-To Guides

These instructions are geared toward new faculty and/or staff members who have just gotten their new HSCNet ID and password and need to configure Outlook 2000 or 97 for use on-campus, or from sites inside the HSC firewall such as on Davis Island.

Step 1
Make sure you are logged in to the HSCNet network using your new ID and password.

Step 2
Open Outlook then click on "Tools" then "Options". On the "Mail Delivery" tab click "Reconfigure mail support"

Step 3
On the "E-mail Services Options" screen that will open, select "Corporate or Workgroup" and click "Next"

Step 4
You will get a warning message about the change you are making.  Click "Yes" and Outlook will close.

Step 5
Click Start and select either "Control Panel" or "Settings" then "Control Panel".
Double click on the "Mail" icon.  If you do not see a Mail icon, click on "Switch to Classic View" first to display the icon.

At this point you may be prompted to insert your Office 2000 installation disk 1 and additional Office components will be installed.

Step 6
When the file installation is complete you should see the "Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings Properties" window.  Click on the "Add" button.

Step 7
Select "Microsoft Exchange Server" from the "Add Services Profile" screen that will appear.

Step 8
At this point additional files will likely be installed from the installation CD and then the Exchange Server configuration page will be displayed.

Enter the Exchange Server name: hscmail.hsc.usf.edu and your HSCNet user ID (the part before the @ in your e-mail address) and click "Check Name".

Your User ID should change to your name as it is listed in the Exchange Global Address Book, and the server name will also change.  Note: There are several servers, so it may not match the picture.

Step 9
Click OK to return to the "Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings Properties" page.  You should now see "Microsoft Exchange Server" listed.  Click on the "Delivery" tab.

Under "Deliver new mail to the following location:" you should see "Personal Folders" listed.  Click this and select the "Mailbox -..." option with your name next to it if you wish to leave you mail on the server so it is accessible from other locations and via the web.

Last Steps:
Click OK again to be returned to the Control Panel screen which can be closed.

Restart Outlook.  Again, you may be prompted for the installation CD.
