Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)
What is Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)?
An otoplasty procedure improves the shape, size and position of the ear while maintaining a natural shape. Ear surgery is a good option for people who want to reduce the size or noticeability of their large, protruding ears.
Who is a good candidate for Ear Surgery?
Candidates must be in good health, have no active diseases or serious, pre-existing medical conditions, and must have realistic expectations of the outcome of the surgery. Talk to your surgeon about your goals and expectations for this procedure.
How is this procedure performed?
An incision is made behind the ear where the ear connects to the head. Your surgeon will remove as much ear cartilage and skin as needed to give your ear a natural shape. Your surgeon may trim the cartilage to reshape it before pinning it back with permanent sutures to secure the cartilage, or, if no cartilage needs to be removed, your surgeon may use stitches to permanently reshape the cartilage instead.
