Clinical Trials

Clinical Research at the University of South Florida (USF)

At USF, clinical research is primarily conducted at USF Health. USF Health is committed to providing the best clinical care available. This mission includes a large clinical trials operation, which advances our understanding of disease and its treatment.By connecting with the Office of Clinical Research at USF Health, you will have access to pioneering clinical trials that will help advance science and treatment.

USF Health includes the Morsani College of Medicine, one of the leading research-intensive medical schools in the Southeast. USF Health is the only academic medical center on the West Coast of Florida, with more than 900 health care professionals in more than 30 different specialties. Studies show that patient outcomes are better at academic medical centers nationwide, compared to other types of practices.

There are several ways to connect with clinical trials taking place at USF Health

  • Center Watch: A centralized listing of USF Health clinical studies that are seeking enrollment. Click the Center Watch link to be redirected to that page.
  • Email for study info: Our Office of Clinical Research monitors a dedicated email for inquiries and connects them directly with study coordinators: ocr@usf.edu
  • Ask your provider: Many of our USF physicians are actively involved in clinical trials and can help you be part of that effort. We encourage patients to inquire about these studies with their physician, who can facilitate enrollment.
  • USF Health Clinical Research Center: A newly constructed state of the art on-site space that provides patients and their families with a comfortable setting for study visits. Located on the 4th floor of the Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare on the USF Tampa campus, the CRC features dedicated study coordinators and research nurses, private examination and infusion rooms with free cable television, free guest wireless internet access, and includes free garage parking adjacent to the clinic building. Email ocr@usf.edu to see what studies are underway that may be applicable to you.

It is important for patients to understand that many of the treatments being studied at USF Health are not available in the community. As such, we provide a unique opportunity for patients with diseases that are not well controlled to potentially improve their own health, and, to contribute to the knowledge about their disease and treatments that could benefit others. All studies are first approved by an independent review board to address medical and ethical issues associated with such trials, and patients are provided with written and verbal information regarding the study and potential risks and benefits. We look forward to hearing from you.
