Pregnancy Loss Prevention

USF Health launched The Pregnancy Loss Prevention Center in 2015 — a clinic housed in the USF Health South Tampa Center for Advanced Healthcare on the campus of Tampa General Hospital on Davis Islands.

Dr. Charles Lockwood – the dean of the Morsani College of Medicine and executive vice president for USF Health – leads this premier research-driven clinic. His internationally renowned and award-winning research has long focused on preventing premature births, stillbirth, miscarriage and maternal thrombosis.

Dr. Lockwood runs the center with Dr. Stephanie Ros, a USF Health obstetrician and gynecologist and an expert in maternal fetal medicine. Dr. Ros is also an award-winning researcher and has spent years studying factors – including genetic causes – that lead to pregnancy loss and premature birth.

This multi-disciplinary clinic – which works with other USF Health medical experts, including genetics, and reproductive endocrinology –first and foremost seeks to give patients a clear and early understanding of what is happening to them so they can better chart a path through treatment or other options that are realistic with their circumstances, like seeking an egg donor. This individualized care cuts through the uncertainty, anxiety and trauma so many mothers, couples and families face, sometimes enduring multiple miscarriages and not knowing why or what to do.
