Clinical Experts

Byrd Institute clinical professionals include neurologists, internists, geriatric psychiatrists, an occupational therapist and a nuclear medicine technologist. Our clinical research coordinators have backgrounds in nursing, pharmacy, psychology, medical and university research.

Each of our clinical experts is specialty trained to ensure the highest standards of patient care and clinical research. Our researchers have many years of clinical research experience as well as experience with industry-sponsored drug trials, bio-repository, neuro-imaging, data capture and more technical studies.

For information on current clinical trials please contact Jill Smith, MA, CCRC, Assistant Director for Clinical Research at (813) 974-4355.

Please note; medical student volunteers in our clinical research projects are not possible as the patient hours usually conflict with class and rotation schedules. We have numerous requests and, unfortunately, it is not possible to accommodate everyone who may be interested. Students are welcome to do a clinical rotation through the Byrd Institute, but we can’t involve those students in clinical research other than in an observational capacity.

If you are interested in a student shadowing opportunity, please contact the faculty member you would like to work with directly to learn of the requirements for shadowing a clinician at the institute. If you are looking for a laboratory research assistantship, please contact the faculty researcher directly for available positions.
