On behalf of the University of South Florida Area Health Education Center (AHEC), I invite you to join the students, faculty and staff of USF Health Tampa Campus as we Stomp Out Smoking at USF Health!
On Thursday, November 19, 2009, smoking will be banned on the USF Health Tampa campus. “Since we are an institution that promotes health, it’s important that we create a healthy environment on our campus,” announced Dr. Stephen Klasko, Senior Vice President for USF Health and Dean of the College of Medicine.
Dr. Donna Petersen, Dean of the College of Public Health, and Dr. Patricia Burns, Dean of the College of Nursing, will launch the smoke-free initiative (with a little help from Rocky the Bull and the Tobacco Free Florida Street Team) at a ceremony in the USF Health Rotunda. There will be plenty of tobacco education materials, cessation resources, food & prizes at this media event.
While you’re helping us stomp out smoking, you can also join USF AHEC as we host Access Day, a program for youth interested in health careers. Access Day draws over 200 high school students, guidance counselors and parents to USF Health to learn about healthcare, college admissions and financial aid. Access Day is a great chance for you to see one of USF AHEC’s premier youth recruitment programs in action while at the same time supporting our efforts to go smoke-free.
We look forward to your presence at these wonderful events!
Cynthia S. Selleck, DSN
USF AHEC Program Director
