The AHEC Health Professions Summer Academy is a two-week residential academic program intended to increase the college preparation skills of high school students interested in health professions careers such as; medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, public health, and allied health.

Participants will be selected from a highly competitive pool of applicants. The Academy strongly encourages applications from students underrespresented in the health professions (African American/black, Mexican American, Puerto Rican, Native American/Alaskan Native) and students from disadvantaged backgrounds (first generation college students, low-income, urban or rural community students).
Dates of Academy: June 14 - June 27, 2009
Admission:
Interested students must submit an AHEC Health Professions Summer Academy application to the USF AHEC Program Office in the spring prior to the summer of the Academy. The USF AHEC Program Office will mail Academy applications to high school health and science teachers as well as career counselors and guidance departments in AHEC's nine-county service area. If your high school would like to receive applications and brochures please send your request to LaToya S. Clark via e-mail.
Deadline for applications: (CLOSED) Monday, February 9, 2009 by 5:00 pm!
Eligibility: Students must be rising juniors or seniors. Must have a 3.0 GPA or above (unweighted) and live in Charlotte, Citrus, DeSoto, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas or Sarasota county.
