Saturday, January 11th - Nutrition and Fitness Fest for the Tampa Bay Refugee Community
Our USF students from the Colleges of Public Health, Pharmacy and Medicine and Arts & Sciences (Anthropology Department) led refugee children and their families in a variety of FUN interactive activities related to nutrition, sports, dancing, gardening, and hand washing. Our students were also able to participate in the open house for the Tampa Bay Gardens Refugee Agricultural Partnership and learn about the exciting plans for this community garden, as well as future potential service projects!

Sunday, January 12th - Special Event for Special Kids at Shriners Hospital!
Our students from the Colleges of Public Health and Pharmacy and School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences led children in a variety of activities in a special event to celebrate the annual East West Shrine Games .

Saturday, March 22nd - BrickmaniaTM event at Carrollwood Day School, to introduce youth to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) educational opportunities
Our volunteers from the Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine introduced youth to the many opportunities in health professions and our excellent USF Health academic programs! Our students led the youth (and their parents too!) in FUN interactive activities related to: keeping your heart healthy; eating healthy; keeping away the germs; staying away from drugs and tobacco; and watching out for poisons !

Our medical and pharmacy students performed the health screenings under supervision of USF Health clinical faculty, our medical students led the vision screenings, and our public health, medical and pre-health professional students led the fun interactive health education activities for kids!
Thursday, April 10th, Benito Middle School Health Expo, as part of National Public Health Week
USF students from the Colleges of Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Arts and Sciences teamed up with experts from the Florida Department of Health- Hillsborough and Center for Autism and Related Disabilities at USF, to bring National Public Health Week to Benito!
Over 1000 middle school students visited fun, interactive stations on topics of: 'Stay Alert, Stay Safe'; 'Just Don't Smoke', 'Stay Fit and Eat Well'; 'Say No to Tobacco and Drugs', 'Check out the Health Professions' and 'Accept Other Kids The Way They Are- Autism Awareness'.

Our USF medical and nursing students performed the blood sugar and blood pressure screenings for adults while our medical students in the opthamology interest group performed the vision screenings....
and our public health students and alumni led the Passport to Safety activities for children....
and everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch and entertainment by a high school band and even a Mexican mariachi band!

May 30th, American Heart Association Strokes For Stroke Art Show and Fundraiser
Our USF Service Corps volunteers assisted with welcoming guests to this creative fundraiser designed to showcase artwork created by stroke survivors. In the process, we were able to meet some wonderful people, view some unique art ... and learn about the research and educational programs led by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.
Students,please note- we are able to utilize many of the excellent educational materials created by AHA for our USF Health Service Corps health fairs and teaching events.... so please be sure to support our USF Health teams for the AHA heart walk next fall !

Meals on Wheels!
On May 31st, an energetic group of nursing students woke up really early and helped with preparing 'hurricane packs' for the meals on wheels recipients. What a wonderful service to the community !

In addition, USF Health Service Corps has adopted a Meals on Wheels Tampa Route for two Monday mornings a month. Volunteers can pick up 10-12 meals in a cooler at a site near USF, deliver the meals to home bound individuals on our special Service Corps’ route, and then return the cooler to the pickup site. 'Target Tuesdays' at Glazer Children’s Museum
On the first Tuesday of each month during the summer, our USF Health students assist our colleagues with St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital with their 'Safety Stop' station.

June 12th, World Refugee Day 2014 at Jefferson High School
More than 25 COPH, CON and COM students contributed to this community event, by: creating an interactive display about the refugee experience; graciously serving an international dinner; leading flag making and other crafts activities with youth; and serving as hosts/hostesses. Teaching and Mentoring Opportunities
Our USF Health students have many opportunities to share their expertise and enthusiasm about health professions with youth in both public school settings and special programs at USF Health. Students are welcome to contact the Service Corps Coordinator, Ellen Kent, MPH,CPH for assistance in selecting these teaching opportunities, identifying health education resources, and planning creative lessons.

Sensational Spring Semester International Book Drive for Children and Teens
The COPH Harrell Center and the Research Institute of Worlds’ Ancient Traditions Cultures & Heritage (RIWATCH) a research agency in the Himalayan Mountains of India, sponsored a USF Health book drive to provide youth in remote parts of India with books . Public health and social work students who participated in a summer study abroad program in India, hand delivered over 100 books in May, to jump-start a novel "Bag Pack Librarian" program by RIWATCH and Lohit Library Movement.
