Sunday, January 13th: Special Event for Special Kids at Shriners Hospital!
Our enthusiastic volunteers brought smiles to former Shriners patients, by helping them with crafts activities and sports games during a special pre-game party with the football players participating in the annual East-West Shrine Games.
This was truly an interdisciplinary Service Corps event, with volunteers from the Colleges of Public Health, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medicine (both the MD and the Masters in Medical Sciences Program) and the School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences all having a great time with the kids!

Saturday, January 19th: Paint the Town/Clean Up Event in the University Area
Community
Our energetic USF Health Service Corps team of students from the Colleges of Public
Health, Nursing and Medicine contributed to a beautification
project in the University area community!

Thursday, January 24th:
The Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County’s 2013 Homeless Count
Over 25 USF Health students from the Colleges of Public Health, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy participated in this unique service learning project !! See also Tampa Tribune news story which features two of our COPH student volunteers!

Sunday afternoon, January 27th:
Sprucing up the health clinic for race track workers at Tampa Bay Downs!
Every winter, we have a multidisciplinary USF Health Service Corps health fair in which
USF Health students volunteer together to provide health and education services to the
seasonal workers who work behind the scenes at Tampa Bay Downs (see below).
This year, we had a special opportunity to paint the deck leading to the clinic as well as
other clean-up projects, and students from the College of Medicine, Nursing, Education,
Public Health and Arts and Sciences contributed to this fun project!

Sunday afternoon, February 3rd: Health Fair at Manatee Villages
Our medical students participated in the blood pressure and blood sugar screenings and administration of flu shots for adults, while our bilingual pharmacy students provided valuable health education to adults.


In addition, our College of Public Health, Pharmacy and Arts and Sciences student volunteers led the children in "Passport to Safety", poison prevention and fitness activities. We even helped the children plant their own vegetable & fruit seeds so that they can grow and eat their own healthy foods !

Our Service Corps volunteers from the Colleges of Public Health and Medicine shared their great advice about success, body image, self esteem and personal hygiene with young girls.

March 22nd: Walk Like MADD at USF
Our Service Corps volunteers led health education activities at this FUN fundraising event to benefit Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Saturday, March 23rd: Tampa Children’s Expo at the Florida State Fairgrounds
Our USF Health students contributed to this event by:
leading children in an interactive bike and pedestrian safety rodeo;
teaching children about poison prevention; and
teaching parents about breastfeeding.

April 4th: Give Life Day at the College of Public Health
More than 85 USF students, staff and faculty donated blood and registered for the National Marrow Donor Program and the Joshua Abbott Organ and Tissue Donor Registry.

April 6th: Health Fair with the Tampa Bay Burmese Council
Our student volunteers with the Colleges of Medicine and Nursing performed the health
screenings for the adults, while our student volunteers with the Colleges of Pharmacy,
Public Health and Arts & Sciences led fun interactive health and fitness activities for
children. This was truly a fun and festive health fair for all and a wonderful way to wrap
up National Public Health Week !

March - April 2013: Our Fun Fundraisers to Benefit the March of Dimes!
This has definitely been our most successful year for our
USF Health Service Corps March of Dimes team !
We have already raised over $3600 and more than 100 people have contributed in
some manner to our team.....
by coming to the March for Babies walk on April 27th
(63 people registered for our team)....

or participating in our creative pottery painting
fundraiser at the USF "BullsMarket" on April 10th ...

or participating in our healthy breakfast fundraiser at the COPH on April 25th !

April 11th: ‘Taking Action for your Health’ screening event at
Florida Hospital Tampa
Similar to the Dr. Oz screening event in July 2013, our USF medical and nursing students assisted with the health screenings. Likewise, our students in the College of Medicine graduate program, College of Public Health and College of Arts and Sciences contributed immensely to the non-clinical aspects of this community event.
