February Valentines Day Events!

Each year, our Service Corps organizes festive parties for community members with a Valentines Day theme. this year, we held  three special parties:

  An arts and crafts party for the children at The Spring;  

A Valentines Day Dessert Party for the patients and their caregivers residing at the  American Cancer Society Benjamin Mendick Hope lodge on campus, as pictured below;



 and a party for the seniors at the Weinberg Village!

  Committed Action to Community Health (CATCH) Health Fair at Tampa Bay Downs on February 16th

Medical,  nursing and physical therapy students contributed to health screenings and patient education for the stable workers and other wonderful folks who work behind the scenes at

 Tampa Bay Downs.




 Interdisciplinary Medical Science students also participated as interpreters, assisted with health education displays as well as distribution of  canned and boxed foods that were donated through the USF Health Service Corps winter food collection drive.

On March 3rd,  a number of public health, nursing, and medical students contributed to the  Just Kids Holiday of Hope Party at Shriners Hospital for Children !

The  next day, March 4th, another group of enthusiastic students participated in the Fitness and Fun Picnic for our friends with the Farmworkers Self  Help

Teen Dream Group at USF Riverfront Park.

The  theme for National Public Health Week 2001 was “Safety is No Accident: Live Injury-free”. Our students contributed to a number of community service activities with a safety theme, including teaching about injury prevention in the public schools, bike rodeo and safety education events at schools, and even safe painting! As another community service component of National Public Health Week, we held our second annual Give Life Day on April 8th, whereby people donated blood at the Florida Blood Services Van, registered with the National Marrow Donor program and Donate Life Florida.

Palmetto Bay Health Fiesta, April 16th


 Our medical, nursing and public health students contributed to this fun  family orientated health fair, through blood sugar and blood cholesterol  screenings, vision screenings,and safety education and fitness games for children!

 March for Babies Walk on April 30th  


This year, we had a record number of students, faculty and staff participants in our USF  Health Service Corps  team, and we raised  over $2500 for the March of  Dimes.

San Jose Mission Fitness and Fun Day on May 22nd


An energetic group of USF Health Service Corps volunteers made a tremendous difference at the San José Mission Clinic in Dover, by painting the Catholic Mobile Medical Services clinic, reading to the children, distributing  clothing to the families and playing sports with the kids!

  Musical Dessert Party at Hope Lodge (Guitars and Goodies) on June 6th 


 Our USF Health Service Corps volunteers prepared and served deserts and mingled with

the Hope Lodge residents and a medical student provided the musical entertainment!

 June 11th,  Multicultural Health Fair at University Area Community Center


Our medical and nursing students contributed to health screenings for adults and our public health students led the Passport to Safety activities for kids.

  Adventures into Safety Events 


In June, our USF Health students contributed to four different community safety events, in collaboration with Safe Kids Tampa/St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital Advocacy Center!

Baking Bread with Seniors & Students, June 15th  


And finally, for a creative new project, our USF Health students assisted  seniors at Weinberg Village with preparing Challah, a special braided bread !

Teaching in the Schools!


Did you know? Between January through June, more than 50 of our talented USF Health students taught/mentored more than 1200 students in local schools
