John Ekarius

Chief Operating Officer

John Ekarius serves as the Chief Operating Officer of USF Health and Morsani College of Medicine. He helps implement strategic priorities in conjunction with the academic and business leadership of USF Health and the Morsani College of Medicine. He oversees academic, budget, personnel, contractual and other operational matters impacting academics, budget and finance, operations to assure adherence to legal, regulatory, and university policies.

As the COO, he supports the mission deans and administrative units to enhance and enable the academic, research and clinical missions conducted by the faculty. Ekarius is responsible for evaluating business and support services, working with academic and business managers throughout all colleges in USF Health and USF Physicians Group to improve services to faculty, patients, and students, as well as increase revenues and reduce expenses. He is heavily involved in negotiations with hospital partners, educational organizations, and business partners for USF Health affiliations.

Ekarius has been with USF since 2007. Prior to coming to USF he was an Associate Dean for Business Development at Drexel University College of Medicine. He spent much of his career in public service in New Jersey in a variety of government roles.
