Evaluating Prerequisite Courses You Have Taken
Students may consult the Prerequisite Evaluation Guide and Prerequisite Guides by Schools to gain an idea of what courses will fulfill our prerequisites. Admissions staff will not review prospective students' transcripts. The review of transcripts is what occurs as part of the process of reviewing applications.
- Prerequisite Guides by School
- The courses listed are the preferred courses at each college/university that fulfill the USF COP pre-pharmacy prerequisites. Please note that the courses listed are not exhaustive or comprehensive and may have changed since last updating the lists. If your college/university is not listed or the course you took or plan to take is not listed under your college/university, complete the Prerequisite Coursework Evaluation Petition.
Applying
Early Decision and Regular Decision Applicants:
Upon the opening of the Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS) 2012-2013 application portal (early June 2012), applicants must:
- Submit an application to the College of Pharmacy through the PharmCAS (www.pharmcas.org) and remit the associated fee to PharmCAS
- Take the PCAT (www.pcatweb.info) and have official scores reported to PharmCAS (code 104)
- Provide an official copy of all college transcripts to PharmCAS
- Request the submission of at least two (2) letters of recommendation on your behalf to PharmCAS. One letter must be from a science professor.
- Electronically submit the USFCOP Supplemental Application and $30 non-refundable application fee. An applicant will receive an invitation to complete the supplemental application AFTER the Office of Admissions is in receipt of his/her PharmCAS application.
Checking the Status of Your Application Materials
Use the STATUS link on the PharmCAS application to verify receipt of your supplemental application and fee, PCAT score, and letters of reference. Please allow 7-10 business days before checking if your supplemental application and fee have been received.
Deadlines
Early decision deadline is September 4, 2012. To learn more about the Early Decision program, visit PharmCAS. The admissions requirements and application process are the same as with regular decision.
Regular decision deadline is December 3, 2012.
Application materials must be received (not postmarked) by the respective deadline.
Transfer Students
USF COP will review transfer requests from pharmacy students from other ACPE-accredited pharmacy schools on a case-by-case basis. It is possible that spots will be available for the fall 2013 PY2 year. Students must be in good academic standing, have legitimate reasons for seeking a transfer, and must come from a program in which the curriculum structure makes sense for placement into the USF COP curriculum. Transfer students will NOT be accepted past the second professional year.
To be considered for a transfer, a student should meet the COP's general admissions requirements and must submit the following:
- E-mail a letter to the Director of Admissions at pharmdadmissions@health.usf.edu indicating why you wish to transfer and explain any difficulties encountered at your current institution. Please do NOT proceed through steps 2-8 until the Director of Admissions responds to your email.
- A catalog and detailed syllabi for all pharmacy courses in which advanced standing consideration will be requested. These documents can be mailed to the Office of Admissions if electronic copies are unavailable.
- A letter from the Student Affairs Dean of the pharmacy program in which the student is enrolled indicating the current academic status and/or terms of withdrawal/dismissal. This letter can be emailed or mailed to the Director of Admissions.
- A letter of recommendation from a current pharmacy faculty member.
- Submit a USFCOP transfer application and $30 non-refundable application fee.
- Provide an official copy of PCAT test scores to USFCOP.
- Provide official copies of all college transcripts to USFCOP.
- Additional documents or letters of recommendation as determined necessary by the Director of Admissions.
The Admissions Committee will review transfer applicants admissions file following the standard process for regular decision applicants.
Our interview process is intended to assess interviewees non-cognitive skills. Interviewees will be invited to attend an on-campus interview beginning in January 2013. Early decision interviews will take place on October 3, 2012.
Please note that USFCOP does not admit applicants on a "rolling" basis. Offers of admission will be made beginning in mid-February and will continue to be made in batches throughout the spring and summer months.
