Case Conferences
Although it does vary for some of the multidisciplinary conferences at each institution, the typical format for resident case conferences is either a staff member or other resident showing cases to a resident who then discusses the case and differential diagnoses. The conferences are usually based on a particular subject area of diagnostic radiology.
All residents are required to attend these conferences except for residents rotating at UDI and ACH. While at All Children's Hospital, rotating residents participate in multidisciplinary clinical, pediatric resident, and medical student conferences, and can also attend pediatric grand rounds (weekly).

Physics
Lectures in diagnostic radiology physics are typically given to residents in June or July preceding the American Board of Radiology physics examination. The department also pays the tuition for a physics review course that residents typically take prior to the examination.
Mock Oral Board Examination
Each year, a mock oral board examination is given for fourth year radiology residents in preparation for the oral American Board of Radiology certification examination given at the end of the fourth diagnostic radiology year.
Residents' Day
PGY 2-4 residents are required annually to select a topic in diagnostic radiology, complete a project on that topic and prepare a scientific presentation. Research projects with faculty are encouraged. The residents give their presentations in mid June of each year at a scientific forum at which faculty members, community radiologists and USF alumni radiologists comprise the audience. An educational stipend is given for the presentation judged to be most scientifically meritorious. Faculty members are available to sponsor each resident's topic and to provide guidance and research help. In the evening, a graduation party is held in honor of the residents and fellows completing our program.
Journal Club
Residents and staff gather at a local restaurant bi-monthly, with residents reviewing and presenting articles from the current radiology literature, and discussions follow. Dinner is paid for by the department.
National Meetings
Residents are encouraged to become involved in academic clinical research projects with faculty in the Department of Radiology. These are usually done in collaboration with radiology faculty members. When the resident presents research in the form of abstracts, papers, or exhibits at national meetings, the resident receives additional leave time as well as monetary support for the presentation.
